Printed Portraits

A torn page from an old anatomy textbook, THE HIP-JOINT, page 271, carrying an engraving of the hip muscles. Two photographs are printed over it in flat black: at the top left a figure in a wide-brimmed hat playing a banjo, and down the right a standing figure in a t-shirt and trousers rendered as dense stipple, so the engraving and the text show through both.
A page from the same textbook, THE TEMPORAL BONES, page 69, with a diagram of the inner ear at the top right. Two more photographs are printed over the type: a small figure upside down with its arms out, near the top, and across the lower half a scene so far into black that only a seated figure and the edges of furniture come back out of it.
